During a party at the family farm in the English countryside, sixteen-year-old Laurel Nicolson has escaped to her childhood tree house and is dreaming of the future. She spies a stranger coming up the road and sees her mother speak to him. Before the afternoon is over, Laurel will witness a shocking crime that challenges everything she knows about her family and especially her mother, Dorothy. Now, fifty years later, Laurel is a successful and well-regarded actress, living in London. She returns to the family farm for Dorothy's ninetieth birthday and finds herself overwhelmed by questions she has not thought about for decades. From pre-WWII England through the Blitz, to the fifties and beyond, discover the secret history of three strangers from vastly different worlds--Dorothy, Vivien, and Jimmy--who meet by chance in wartime London and whose lives are forever entwined. "The Secret Keeper" explores longings and dreams, the lengths people go to fulfill them, and the consequences they can have. It is a story of lovers, friends, dreamers, and schemers told--in Morton's signature style--against a backdrop of events that changed the world.

Oldest daughter Laurel was witness to her mother’s killing of man on her brother’s second birthday, a death judged self-defense. Now, as her mother’s life is coming to an end long-held secrets begin to unfold.

Morton’s page-turning novel set in WW II London and recent time has a remarkable cast of characters and quite a story. Loved it.

What a great book. I loved it from beginning to end and there were so many twists and turns throughout. The story takes place during WWII, 1953 and 2011. It's a story of a mother's life and the many secrets she kept and the daughter who was trying to unravel them. This was a fabulous read.

This is the best book that I have read for a long time. About four adult children watching their mother die of old age The mother had many secrets from her past that they are trying to uncover before she passes away. Starts off in Australia in the 1920's with a tragedy and a young orphan girl who is sent to live in England with an uncle. The story flits back and forth between 1943 ,1960 and 2011. A surprising twist at the end. Couldn't put this book down for long.

Absolutely loved this book! The WWII London setting juxtaposed with 1960's and current day events create an intertwined plot with many twists and turns. My friends and I were kept guessing up to the last pages. 5 stars!
