From Library Staff

An epic political tale of greed, corruption, and ambition--based of the popular Netflix series starring Kevin Spacey.

The book that inspired the hit TV show was originally set in Great Britain. But the scheming and secrets remain the same.

It's hard to get into this novel at first but, once you do, House of Cards is a masterpiece as far as thrillers go. Francis Urquhart is probably the most developed and interesting antihero in any book I've read. I've never watched the Netflix or BBC series, but reading this book made me want to plunge into the latter.

This is a well-plotted tale of intrigue and ambition in British parliamentary politics, the first of a trilogy. Much more restrained and believable than the BBC adaptation. The latter has inspired a U.S. version, which I haven't seen.

Worth a read if you're a fan of the BBC miniseries, however in my opinion this is a rare example of the film version being superior to the book.
