When the owners of a multi-million-dollar development of ranchettes in Durant, Wyoming, want to get rid of the adjacent junkyard, they come up against the notorious Stewart clan, making the town feel like a high plains pressure cooker. Absaroka County sheriff Walt Longmire soon finds himself in the throes of a modern-day range war featuring more than just the usual corpses, including an outlaw whose young wife likes to tie her grandfather-in-law to the back of a 1968 Oldsmobile Toronado. -- Book jacket.

I am working my way through Craig Johnson's books, and really enjoy them partly because I grew up in that area. I find them to be well written and fast moving, and the humor is exceptional. "Junkyard Dogs" is my favorite of his books so far, but I have quite a few to go.

I was introduced to these books via the made-for-TV series, so I had no idea that Longmire was hilarious! It is some times groan-ers, sometimes pun-y, and sometimes laugh-out-loud, but always understated humor. This is the funniest yet (#6, I think) and with a couple of real surprises near the end--one personal and one professional for Walt, and a couple for the reader, too.

I was able to rent the e-book so no longer needed the printed version. As usual, love the characters and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I laughed out loud at least 3 times while reading this book. Love the characters, love the author.
