"Aladdin is a street rat. There's really no getting around that. Like most, he's just trying to survive another day in impoverished Agrabah. Jasmine is a princess, one who is about to enter into an arranged marriage. All she wants is to escape her fate, to see what lies beyond the palace walls. But everything changes when the sultan's trusted advisor, Jafar, suddenly rises to power. With the help of an ancient lamp, Jafar becomes determined to break the laws of magic and gain control over love and death. Soon Aladdin and the deposed princess Jasmine must unite the people of Agrabah in rebellion to stop the power-mad ruler. But their fight for freedom grows costly when it threatens to tear the kingdom apart." -- page 2 of cover.

The equivalent to fractured fairy tales for children, this is an original spin on a Disney favorite, that lives up to the challenge of staying true to the Aladdin characters but delves into a refreshing turn of events. Romance and action keep the pages turning.

A take on the Aladdin story: the first part is very familiar to those who have seen the Disney movie. The rest of the novel gets better: street rat Aladdin, princess Jasmine, and Jafar's story take a different turn after the Cave of Wonders.

I opened this one and couldn't put it down. It's the first in a series of "Disney Twisted Tales" by Ms. Braswell and honestly I love the twists she puts in each of them. It shows how one simple little decision can change an entire universe and how the story can take a completely different turn. I can't wait to see what her next story is and I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who enjoys Disney movies. The next one in the series is Once Upon A Dream and her most recent is As Old As Time; retellings of Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast respectively.

As you start reading the first 100 pages you feel like you're reading the movie. It's exactly the same. But then we get to the cave of wonders and it finally takes the change of direction. It was a good decent read above all.
