Want to aspire to greatness? Check out this new edition of Timmy Failure's first adventure--featuring the bonus section "How to Draw Timmy and Total."

He may be clueless, but the comically self-confident Timmy Failure is CEO of the best detective agency in town, perhaps even the nation. Now Timmy's legion of fans are invited to set off on their own path to mastery with the help from Stephan Pastis. Added material includes step-by-step instructions on how to draw Timmy and his impressively lazy business partner, the polar bear Total--including a trick to making them both look a tiny bit nuts (hint: the secret is in the eyes). Even better, kids are invited to share the spotlight with Timmy by sending their drawings to his website, for a chance to be featured in the Timmy Failure Gallery of Greatness.

Opinion

From Library Staff

Eleven-year-old Timmy starts a detective agency called Total Failure, and his partner is a polar bear; what could go wrong? Part of a series.

This was a very funny and cool book. I did not really like that it did not have much of a story but instead a lot of humor. I recommend this book for littler kids.

For ages 9-12. When a detective is named Failure and his sidekick is named Total, you’re guaranteed a hilarious detective story and I haven’t even mentioned that Total is a 1,500-pound polar bear.

Sadly, I am no longer a child but fortunately you do not have to have youth on your side to enjoy this story. It is clever and entertaining on many levels. In fact there are some inferences that will only be properly enjoyed by an adult. I recommend it for a quick, light read for anyone aged 9 to 90.

Great fun! This is supposedly a children's book, but that is misleading. Anyone who enjoys the warped mind of Stephan Pastis, the creator of the "Pearls before Swine" comic strip, will delight in this romp. To be clear, this is a novel, intended for a juvenile audience, not a "Pearls" collection.

The surname, Failure is a rather unfortunate one but it doesn't interfere with the success Timmy envisions having with his detective agency! When your business partner is a 1500 pound polar bear named Total and your transportation is a Segway and you have a business and marketing strategy how can you fail? Well, poor Timmy fails to see the obvious in every case; he imagines his arch-enemy detective, Corrina Corrina, is sabotaging his business and his attempts to ask for a $1200 business loan from his mom meet with, "Are you insane?" What is successful is the story's humour which is supported by some amusing cartoon drawings, superior vocabulary and an endorsement by
humour-master, Jeff Kinney!
