The Safest Lie follows Anna Bauman as she assumes a new identity in order to survive World War II. Though a work of fiction, the story is based on Irena Sendler's contribution to saving Jewish children from ghettos. Details of Anna's physical state, along with her feelings toward pretending to not be Jewish, as well as her realizations throughout the book, bring a perspective not often visited on the subject of World War II. Fans of historical fiction will enjoy the significance of the viewpoint presented in this juvenile novel.
