Keri has run the family bakery since her mother passed away. Now her estranged father-- the Lord of Nimmira-- has died, and ancient magic has decreed that she will take his place as the new Lady. The position is dangerous: the mists that hide Nimmira from its vicious, land-hungry neighbors have failed; and her three half-brothers have their own eyes on the crown. But Keri has three people to guide her: mysterious Timekeeper, clever Bookkeeper, and steadfast Doorkeeper. Together they must find a way to repair the boundary-- and teach Keri how to become a Lady.

I quite liked the novel. The pacing is just a bit on the slower side, as the events are rather tamer than those in other fantasy tales. Despite this, the pacing wasn't an issue at all, since the writing flows well and pulled me along. Still, young readers expecting dramatics or just amateurs of event-driven novels may not really appreciate this book; it is much more character-driven. I loved that the protagonist is a quietly strong *and* humble young woman with enough self-awareness to admit her flaws without languishing in self-flagellation and angst. She rises to the occasion, establishing and relying teamwork intelligently; a positive depiction of female leadership. Strongly recommended.

The writing has way too much unnecessary detail and the action is not very exciting. the style of the writing almost has a juvenile quality to it and treats the readers as if they were younger than the target audience. The book is written more like a tv script than a novel.
I often found myself skipping over entire paragraphs and still being able to follow the plot points.
