If you are missing the snow, there is plenty of it in this Nature episode. It has a lot of adorable footage of snow monkeys as it follows a specific troop living in the Japanese Alps for about a year and a half. It shows the cycle of seasons and the cycle of life. There are a few scenes which are difficult to watch, but it is life. Liam Neeson narrates this episode.

I would like to know more about the nature of snow monkeys, but the aspects of compassion, altruism, social hierarchy, and friendship were very good. Beware, there is a tragic component in this documentary which some may find disturbing.

An excellent contribution to the "Nature" series. The filmmakers are scientists, dedicated to getting it right, and they did.

Another fine documentary from PBS. This explores the social dynamics of this particular type of monkeys in Japan as they go through a year in their lives.

Interesting documentary narrated by Liam Neeson showing social ranks among them. Some have quite the personality. I must say it would also be quite a photographer's delight!

I'm getting very disappointed with PBS and BBC documentaries. This film is awful. Apart from the nice images of snow and hot springs, it's an excellent example of taking nature and pasting a human story over top it. If you like this film then you'll like 'The Bear Family and Me'. But both are horrible documentaries that really, dangerously teach us little about nature and our place in it.
