Every Monday evening, six people gather in a smart North London house to talk about addiction. There they share their deepest secrets: stories of lies, regret, and above all, shame. Then one of them is killed - and it's clear one of the circle was responsible. Detective Inspector Nicola Tanner quickly finds her investigation hampered by the strict confidentiality that binds these people and their therapist together. So what could be shameful enough to cost someone their life? And how do you find the truth when denial and deception are second nature to all of your suspects?

Not his best. Too easy to figure out who the killer is.

Was finding it didn't flow like his others, said come on this is Billingham it will get better! It didn't. Hard work getting through it, characters underdeveloped and the "big surprise ending"?? was a letdown. Reads like a first draft that should have been binned. So disappointing I love all the other Billingham books, but this just doesn't cut it.

I prefer the Tom Thorne books, but this is fairly good.

Nowhere near his usual standard. I'm only 1/4 of the way through & will dump it if it doesn't improve.

Good storytelling by one of my favorite authors. Unfortunately there was a strong underlying theme of people blaming women for men's behavior that spoiled it for me. I've read two British novels in a row that have carried that theme and I get the impression the authors don't even realize it.

Another fantastic story from one of my favourite authors. Although not part of the Tom Thorne series, the introduction of a new female DI, and the inclusion of Phil Hendricks worked well for me.
