When Purmort met Aaron-- a charismatic art director and comic-book nerd-- he made Nora laugh so hard she pulled a muscle. When Aaron was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, they refused to let it limit their love. They got engaged on Aaron's hospital bed and had a baby boy while he was on chemo. In the period that followed, Nora and Aaron packed fifty years of marriage into the three they got. The obituary they wrote during Aaron's hospice care revealing his true identity as Spider-Man touched the nation. Here Purmont gives her readers a love letter to life, in all its messy glory.

Memoir of a terrible time in the author's life - her husband's diagnosis and eventual death from brain cancer. Yet filled with humor and extremely relatable descriptions of day-to-day life with their 2-year-old son and all of the messy details of a young family. Hard to put down, tear and laugh-inducing. If you like this, try her podcast: Terrible, Thanks for Asking.

I stumbled across this on the New Books shelf -- what a find! Nora's story is unbelievably sad but her writing style is so honest and hilarious, you can't help but keep reading. I found myself crying and laughing out loud in the SAME PARAGRAPH. The book is a little bit memoir combined with the tragic experiences of the last few years, and how the author dealt with grief and loss. If you enjoy the book, you will probably also like a podcast the author recently started called "Terrible, Thanks For Asking" -- really well done.
