When Purmort met Aaron-- a charismatic art director and comic-book nerd-- he made Nora laugh so hard she pulled a muscle. When Aaron was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, they refused to let it limit their love. They got engaged on Aaron's hospital bed and had a baby boy while he was on chemo. In the period that followed, Nora and Aaron packed fifty years of marriage into the three they got. The obituary they wrote during Aaron's hospice care revealing his true identity as Spider-Man touched the nation. Here Purmont gives her readers a love letter to life, in all its messy glory.

I stumbled across this on the New Books shelf -- what a find! Nora's story is unbelievably sad but her writing style is so honest and hilarious, you can't help but keep reading. I found myself crying and laughing out loud in the SAME PARAGRAPH. The book is a little bit memoir combined with the tragic experiences of the last few years, and how the author dealt with grief and loss. If you enjoy the book, you will probably also like a podcast the author recently started called "Terrible, Thanks For Asking" -- really well done.

The one memoir that you should read.

Sweet and bold and laugh-out-loud funny. This memoir is a breath of fresh air in what has become a mostly cringe-inducing category of reading. Nora was married to Aaron Purmort who died peacefully at home on November 25, 2014 after complications from a radioactive spider bite. He left behind Nora and their son Ralph, who will grow up to avenge his father's untimely death.

Aaron will live on in my memory, too, through this amazing memoir! Marriage and moving-on advice also included!
