Opinion

From Library Staff

Twelve-year-old Timothy is under house arrest for stealing a wallet. However, Timothy only wanted the money for his sick baby brother, Levi. Because of the crime, Timothy must endure house arrest for the next year. Through sentimental and creative free verse, Timothy's emotional journey unfolds.

All of the things Timothy must do on house arrest should be enough to keep him out of trouble, but it's not that easy when he and his family are struggling to make ends meet--and keep his brother alive.

So, those "frustratingly mixed messages" mentioned in the Kirkus review for House Arrest? I loved them. This book does an excellent job of showing how incredibly unfair life can be, and how doing the wrong thing for the right reasons can make a lot of sense. Highly recommend!

Well written and a fantastic journey through the emotions of a young boy dealing with grown up issues. Recommend for young adults and adults alike. Fast read that you won't want to put down.

This was the kind of book that jabs you in the heart a couple of times and leaves you wandering whether you want to smile, cry, hit something, or all of the above. The verse is perfect for such vivid emotion, and the wit of the narrator lightens the drama just enough to keep it from being overwhelming. Amazing read!
