"By the mid-21st Century, humankind has colonized the oceans and formed the UEO--the United Earth Oceans--as a military organization to police it. Formerly a high-ranking member of the UEO, Nathan Bridger (Roy Scheider) retired after the death of his wife, and retreated to an isolated island to study dolphins. An attempt is made to hijack the Seaquest DSV, the UEO's most powerful undersea vessel, and Nathan--its original designer--is convinced to return to active service, to assume command of it."

Unique 2005 drama which speculates that when we run out of land space, man will move to inhabiting the seas. SeaQuest is a mega underwater sub equipped with advanced guidance and weaponry, even a resident communicating dolphin, Darwin, that lives in an onboard dolphin pen. Other shipmates are a moral officer that likes practical jokes and gambling, a female biochemist/ doctor and teenaged computer science genius. Not what I would call especially believable, but interesting plotlines and guest actors (including William Shatner as a deranged megalomaniac) make this worth watching if you can suspend your need for realism. Roy Scheider overacts, but helps keeps everything on an "even keel".
