On February 4, 1974, Patty Hearst, a senior in college and heiress to the Hearst family fortune, was kidnapped by a ragtag group of self-styled revolutionaries calling itself the Symbionese Liberation Army. The already sensational story took the first of many incredible twists on April 3, when the group released a tape of Patty saying she had joined the SLA and had adopted the nom de guerre "Tania."

Recommend.
I found this to be a really interesting and fast paced read/audio. I think more so knowing the "inside scoop" of these bumbling ragtag “radical terrorists”.

The main question concerning Patricia Hearst ...was she a victim of brainwashing or a willing participant in the crimes committed by the SLA?

The author is clear that he doesn't think Patricia was brainwashed, but does offer the alternative view so that the reader is left with everything one needs to draw your own conclusions.

If you want this on audio, I suggest the downloadable version instead of CDs simply because the reader is very slow. I have sped it up 35%, which seems incredibly high to me, but the speed is just right.
The story does slow down once she’s caught.

Just have to add ...how ironic is it that she ended up marrying a “Pig”?

This was at times compelling, and others not-so-much and a bit too detailed. But overall, it was an interesting read into a huge incident that happened in the 1970's, an incident of which I knew just about nothing. I really enjoyed the narration of this and even went so far as to try and find what other books he narrated. I'd recommend the audio, definitely!

This book is quite riveting for the most part and very meticulously researched. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that I had to quit listening to it. I could not spend anymore time with such dysfunctional people, including Patty Hearst.
