I've recently discovered this author, and as a fan of the genre, enjoyed it quite a bit. It may have been condensed, but I enjoyed the characters enough that it kept me reading. A lot of the play-out was not over-explained, and some potential scenes were wisely bypassed. I enjoy a book that has character development and plot lines besides the main one as it keeps you guessing as to what will come in to play in the end. All in all, enjoyed the writing and rate it as a good read. Already hooked on book #2 which carries on with some of the minor characters from this book.

This is worth a read. I felt the story line wasn't completely predictable, and the characterization was well-done. I liked the personality of the main character and her insecurities were understandable. The mystery was very complex and a bit hard to follow because of multiple names used for the characters (Dukes/baronesses have multiple names, especially when you add in first names). But interesting once you figure it out. I am going to try to find more of the books in the series, I liked this one so much.

-Good premise: check
-Good Characterization: check
-Good writing style: check
-Enjoyment of book: Meh

With all the 'checks' above, I really tried to like this, but alas ended up skimming the last hundred pages. I found myself indifferent to the mystery element and wished the subplot about the maid's romance was left off. I think if the story could have been condensed by 150 pages and the suspense level ratcheted up a notch, I could have given it 5 stars.

Of dukes, Baronness', inheritances, romance, mystery and danger, This was my first book by the author and I was impressed and entertained. The plot was engaging and the romance very sweet. I look forward to other books by this author
