This is THE book that we read every Saint Patrick's day. It is a great introduction to his life for children and I think as well as adults. It deals well with the legends, by placing them together at the end of the story and stating that they are legends. It is up to the reader (and parent) to decide what to think of them. The illustrations of course are great, and there is much to be learned from the life of a well-born man who persevered through years as a slave and after his escape returned to love and serve the people who had captured him.
