Comment
Add a CommentIn literature, many novels share the theme of self identity. By definition, self identity is made up of characteristics, such as race, religion, sexuality, gender, nationality, values and traditions, which distinguish oneself from other people. Often self-identity can be affected through the influence of others. In particular, self identity can be affected through traditional beliefs about gender roles. Social traditions impacting one’s self identity is unquestionably shown in the literature work "Tricks" written by Ellen Hopkins.
This book was ok, but it's so similar to all of Ellen Hopkins's other books that I got really bored. The only thing that was different was the prostitution aspect. The teenage drinking, drugs, sex, abuse, coming out as gay, breaking away from religion, etc. was the exact same as every other EH book. Maybe if you haven't read very many of this author's other books you might enjoy it, but since I've read all of her books, it was just very repetitive and predictable, and I don't like reading the exact same storyline over and over.
Serious book but totally engaging, a real page-turner. Often books with multi-characters are confusing but the story line flowed in their poems making it easy to remember what had happened last to each one. I'm sure that many teens have had exactly these lives and the quickness of their fall and the bleakness of their situation - at age 15, 16, 17 - makes it hard to imagine anyone ever getting out alive.
Great book. I wasn't expecting these teens to do such things. Another great one by this author. Great writing.
good book.
this was the first book i read of Ellen Hopkins and i got to say it was wonderful, i loved all the characters and the way it as written was amazing. the book gave me a new prospective on why people prostitute and how the situations can lead them to that path. People do crazy things in order to survive. i cant say that if i was in there situations i wouldnt do the same thing.
Was an amazing book but the end could have tied up better.
This was a well put together story. It carries a true and realistic tone. This books was insightful, accurate, and real. I loved it. This author has a different style of wiriting but the story is well worth it.
My personal favorite of all of Ellen Hopkin's work(I've read all of her books). This is a great book, I started and finished it all in one day. Outstanding.
I don't quite know how to describe this book. It was very real, yet, the way it is written...I didn't dislike the book at all. In fact, I quite enjoyed it, but it really makes you think upon your own life and the decisions you have or will eventually make.
