This book presents an idealized "perfect" George Washington from kid to adult. My 8 year old and I read it together in one sitting. My son enjoyed it and retained some facts. I would of preferred a more realistic portrayal that included some character flaws, but I still recommend the book.

I didn't really like this book as much as the other books in this series but it was interesting to read about the life of George Washington. I'm fortunate to live in the only state named after him and I really didn't know much about him (other than the fabricated stories that are so popular, like the wooden teeth and the apple tree), so I did learn a lot about our First President. This is a great book to teach kids about history but adults should find it entertaining as well.

I read this with my 8 year old. We both loved it. It's a very informative title with lots of Washington factoids, but Meltzer manages to present it in a fun and accessible way. The length was just about right for a single sitting read. Loved the emphasis on leadership qualities. For first grade and above due to the length and subject.
