Yikes!! Was whoever cast this reading the same books I've been reading? Absolutely NOT how I saw the characters. Sets are good, Archie would know how to pick a hat that suited his face.

Volume 3 of the first series. Only one disc in this volume with 3 episodes Door To Death, Christmas Party and Over My Dead Body. I like Maury Chaykin as Nero Wolfe. Was surprised to learn that William Conrad played Nero Wolfe in 1981.
Volume 1 of the first series - The Doorbell Rang and Champagne For One - Doorbell Rang was okay. Champagne For One made me laugh when the rich Mrs Robalatti screams and yells. Nero Wolfe seems quiet compared to her.
Volume 2 - best one of the first season. My favorite character is Fritz.

Other than the ensamble casting, this is a very good adaptation of Stout's rotund PI. Done as a period piece, captures the nuances of Archie and Wolfe. Also includes adaptaions of several Stout stories.
Trivia: Timothy Hutton is the son of the late Jim Hutton who starred in the 1970's "Ellery Queen" also an excellent whodunnit program done as a period piece.

Captures the spirit of the Rex Stout novels. Excellent production quality. Some may find the ensemble casting a little strange (same actors play different characters from episode to episode) but I liked it.
