A Scandinavian rock icon, HIM enjoys more than a mere buzz overseas. It's a frenzy. Haunting, gothic, rocking, beautiful and melodic.

Generally I'd call this Gothic Metal. HIM refers to their style of music as Love Metal, that describes this album aptly. The common lyrical theme is macabre and forbidden romance, so there is plenty of vampire and cemetery references. The songs are catchy and well done. HIM is the first Scandinavian band to reach platinum status in North American, and it was achieved with this album. A fun listen and recommended to non-elitist metal fans.

The first cd I bought from HIM, many would argue that they lost their touch and went more comercial, though I acknowledge that their sound is somewhat similar to other bands there are more than enough songs in the album the bleed HIM. Vampire Heart for example is carried by keyboards and guitars and haunting lyrics, that sway you and shake you. Darklight is almost a mix of Gone With the Sin, Resurection and a bit of One Last Time, Ville's voice drops only to rise and bring you to tears. "In oblivion's garden, her body is on fire," pure poetry. The Face of God and the Nightside of Eden to me are unique and come somewhat close to Love's Requiem. Darklight is a cd that I hold very dear and that I can listen to the whole day and not hate a single track or get sick of hearing over and over.

by this point, they had stopped making good music, but it's not bad
