William is forced to join forces with Cope and soon stumbles upon a discovery of historic proportions. With this extraordinary treasure, however, comes exceptional danger, and William's newfound resilience will be tested in his struggle to protect his cache, which pits him against some of the West's most notorious characters.

A fast-paced historical novel with believable characters in a setting that I could picture as I listened. Will miss Crichton's writing. Strong readalike to Kenneth Oppel's YA novel,
Every Hidden Thing.

It's been years since I read this author & I kept thinking 'isn't this supposed to be some really good writer?" What a disappointment, I never bothered to finish.

Classic Crichton. Unadulteratedly researched, crafted and completed by him. I was worried about reading it - not being a fan of early paleontology, the wild west, or posthumously published works, but after a slightly slow beginning the novel picks up pace and does not falter or slow. As usual with Crichton, I was utterly engaged and entertained. This felt earlier in his writing career - similarities to Great Train Robbery. He really was a master storyteller with sharp imagination and an unerring dedication to facts.
