Amazing and highly recommended. It is a curated collection of letters to and from the Dear Sugar advice column by Cheryl Strayed. The letters published touch on love, loss, finances, and every other messy thing life has to offer. Dear Sugar’s voice is clear and strong and so rawly honest that I was completely mesmerised by this book, and have gone on to read Strayed’s Wild. Tears were shed. Pauses were taken in between letters. Definite bonus points for the audio version being read by the author. (submitted by TH)

I am a huge fan of Cheryl Strayed (Yes, Wild.) I therefore, had high expectations from this book. This is probably why it was a let down. I felt the choice of letters to reply to were not that good and except for some really poignant queries, most were repetitive. Cheryl's answers too were not great - too much personal stuff, and way too long.

Incredible. So moving and insightful that I had to put it down for a week to let all my feels sink in. I will be purchasing this because it covers everything, from relationships to children personal struggles. Highly recommend!

This book is a collection of the incredibly introspective Dear Sugar advice column that ran in Rumpus.net. The advice is never straight forward, instead advice seekers are slowly led to an answer that they probably already knew deep down inside. These answers show a different side of Cheryl Strayed. I had only known her from reading Wild before this. Here she is even more open, with heartbreaking details about her own life that inform readers of their own lives.

I read this right after reading about Liberia during the civil wars, so I'm thinking the stout-hearted get-off-the-couch attitude is all very well and good, but what do you do when your situation is such that your best efforts just get to flipped to the other side of the spider web of disadvantage you are on?

Absolutely relatable and worth the read. It'll make you revisit feelings you've forgotten about and perhaps give you a new perspective of those things you can't seem to let go of.

Strayed's strength is in the way that responds to her readers' vulnerability with radical vulnerability of her own, sharing her own darkest moments and greatest failures, gently providing perspective, and often getting to the unstated heart of readers' questions. Regardless of whether any of the readers' situations resonate with you, Strayed's stunningly wise and radically empathetic approach to life, communicated through truly beautiful writing, almost can't help but change the way you see the world.

This is a crackerjack book of heartbreaking sentiment. There will be sentences that make you gasp, maybe cry, underline and write in your library book.

This book - oh, so good. It was raw, honest, and refreshing. It's like the best friend you need to give you the brutral truth - but with so much sympathy and empathy it almost hurts. Strayed writes so, so well. I wanted to copy and hang some of the letters and quotes all over my home as a reminder of some of these bits of wisdom.
