When you find out what the "photo" of is on the cover of the book, you'll be grossed out. And you find out in the first couple paragraphs.

This book is definitely worth a read - it grabs you from the start and is unrelenting to the end. I can't wait to read the second installment!

This Mortal Coil is an edge-of-your-seat, nail biting YA technothriller that grabs you from the first pages and doesn't relent. Featuring a disgusting viral pandemic in which people explode into voluminous clouds of gore and infectious particles and starring the daughter of the only person with a chance at creating a viable vaccine. A fantastic, twisty page-turner that will satisfy fans of zombies, computer hacking, genetic engineering, and, yes, teen romance.

I was unsure of this book at the beginning because of all the technology it included, but I ended up really enjoying this book and I'm excited for the 2nd in the series. This is a futuristic story where everyone has been implanted with a technology panel in their arms that can heal them faster, change their DNA and basically change their bodies in any way they want. The human race is in danger from the Hydra virus, placing humans in danger of extinction.

I really enjoyed this book! I found that there were a lot of good twists and interesting aspects to the book. The story line was great! I can't wait for the next one! Good read for any fans of dystopian teen fiction.

Read this book as part of our high school's annual Kindle Tournament (like the March Madness but with books). An interesting twist to dystopian literature - viruses affect the human race to extinction but can it be stopped? When Cat's father is kidnapped by a supposedly evil force, Cat has to survive on her own until a soldier, Cole, is sent to retrieve her to help stop the virus. Why Cat? Her father created a vaccine but they need help getting it to the people as it is encrypted. Why Cat? Cat is an excellent hacker. Excellent world-building with a little romance, adventure, and the technology used is great. Really surprised me and will be reading the second book when it comes out.

I liked this book. It was intense and gripping and went through the plot full throttle. It was fearless and dirty and gritty. I appreciated the tone of the book and was grateful for the shift in normal YA safe violence.

My few problems with this book were the technical jargon and the familiar plot points like love triangles and revolutionary girl is the only one that can save the world. There was A LOT of technical exposition. It was needed for this sci-fi world and to someone who is interested in that stuff--like my bf--it was cool but I mostly glided through a lot of it. Similar to THE MARTIAN in that way. And of course, there were the age old love triangles and corrupt system that the main girl the only one who can save everyone. And then it's all about how she has to take everyone and everything down. Which was fine but I was disappointed because there were other things that were so unique and those plot devices were incredibly trope-y.

That said, I was gripped. There were times when I couldn't put this book down and other times I had to put it down to take a breath because it was so intense. Her writing style was good--lengthy at times but still good. Cat's character was ruthless and I appreciated that type of no nonsense, do-what-she-has-to kind of heroine. Also the twist at the end was good. I didn't see it coming until later in the novel which I always appreciate when a book can surprise me.

Overall it's good and I'm anxious to read the next one. I just have to be mentally prepared for it cause I'm sure it's going to be more intense than this one.

I absolutely loved this book. Couldn't put it down and read it in one night. It's unusually (and delightfully) heavy on the science for YA, and its plot twists are absolutely stunning.

This Mortal Coil will definitely keep your heart racing and your eyes following this rapidly unfolding thriller with a unique plot. This is a fantastic book from a promising new author with one of the most intense plots of the year. This book truly shows that you can take a common theme like a dystopian type world on the brink of extinction that everyone's read something similar to before and craft it into a whole new category with features that was totally mind blowing. From the second page you're experiencing a plot you think you've read a few times before already but then you dig deeper into it and realise this is like nothing you've ever read before.
