Young girl gets teased about her unruly hair, goes to her neighbor's house and learns how to take care of her black hair properly & to love it for its own special beauty. Uses garden analogies and shows how one plant being pretty in the garden doesn't make another very different plant any less beautiful. Has 2 pages of specific black hair care tips & directions at end of the book (shampooing, combing, creme etc)

Wonderful idea for a book!!! This is a little wordy for younger readers, however it has the perfect ending. Be happy with who you are and things will be OK. Also offers great tips on keeping your hair strong and pliable.

How does a young black girl learn to care for and appreciate her hair? In this book, Miss Tillie teaches that your hair is a garden and like every beautiful garden, it must be loved and cared for. You must eat right and watch what you think & speak regarding your hair. A valuable lesson for females of all ages.
