Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can't move. She can't speak. She can't open her eyes. Though she can hear everyone around her, no one knows because she's in a coma. But she doesn't remember what happened. And she has a sneaking suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from twenty years ago, the narratives build and collide for an ending that leaves readers speechless. This novel delves into the blurred gap between who we are and who we'd like to be.

Amber wakes up in a hospital. Though she can hear everyone around her, she can't communicate. She's in a coma, but she doesn't know why. But she does have a sneaking suspicion her husband has something to do with it.

Amber wakes up internally from a coma and can hear everyone around her, however, she still looks like she's sleeping so no one knows. How did she get like this, and who did it?

Wow. Skillfully written, I literally ended the book and immediately went back to reread it with fresh eyes. Very twisty. Loved it!

I have read one other novel by Feeney and liked it very much. This one has enough twists on it to the very end to keep me turning the pages.

I had a bit of a love-hate reaction to this book. I didn't love any of the characters, some of the plot twists were reaching the unbelievable way-too-much stage, and I was confounded by the final ending... And yet I was drawn in. Knowing it's an unreliable narrator going in, there was anticipation knowing that the plot would go in unexpected places, and (most of) the twists surprised me. So, I'm giving it 3 1/2 stars.

I was in the mood for a completely different type of read and this did the trick for me. The premise of the book is that Amber is in a coma in a hospital and can hear everything around her but cannot speak not move. She is trying to piece together what happened to her based on her fragmented memory and conversations around her. There are many twists and turns in the plot, and I felt as though I followed them all, but was still left with a few things that did not make sense and for that I give it 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was interesting how she jumped back and forth and kept you on the edge pretty much at all times. The ending was a tad confusing. I didn't really understand how the certain item got back to her but I thought about it a lot and there could have been many different reasons. I almost feel like there could be a sequel. Overall, I highly recommend this book. The twist that happens towards the end was totally unexpected.

Agree with a couple other reviews. Very confusing as author hops back and forh from present to past and is very repetitive. Then she seems to rush to finish and leaves a feeling of "what did I miss"? As a result, I did not feel I was able to figure out what happened.

This book confirms my theory that when all the reviews are provided by author friends there will be a lack of quality, originality, nuance and impact. Not recommended.
