🐦 Hey, hardtofind, thanks for the tip! I'll check it out!

WARNING... There are instances of PORN in this movie. Quite a few. Not a lot of vulgar language in this movie. But heard the F word several times. Not only is this movie not fit for children , but also not fit for adults as well. The person who was in charge of training the Sparrows has one sick mind. You my as well say the person doing the acting in training the Sparrows has a sick mind. Some people may argue and say "that this movie is not for wimps". To which I would say... Okay sicko enjoy what you call a movie. If you love eating vomit, then this movie is for you.
These days Hollywood has a mindset that thinks that sex and vulgar language sells. Sick mindset. They just keep getting worse and worse all the time. Thankfully there are other movies that are worth watching.
I found it hard to rate this movie. gave it 1 star only because it was better than the movie ... Only The Brave that I have watched earlier. Both movies belong in the pit.
In this movie ... the daughter Dominica was very close to her mother. And she joined the Sparrows only so her mother would be taken care of.

The overall spy story I believe was a good one as it held my attention, however, I do not think it was executed very well. Some scenes felt they were added to just for 'shock' value- use of the hairbrush, physical fights while naked etc. but they felt forced and not helpful in the story line. The most disappointing part to me was the relationship between Nate and Domi- there did not seem to be any build to it, just BAM now we are lovers and care about each other? There was no development in this and it did not come off genuine to me.

I will not be putting book #2 on the top of my list to read next.

Fantastic, a little upsetting that espionage and sex go hand in hand but a very entertaining movie, well worth the ticket price.

Disgusting. Hollywood hates God and wears blinder's to all but nudity, cursing, drugs, sex, and evil at every level. Waste of time. If you're into porn, watch it.

Story line was OK. A LOT of nudity. If you ever wondered what Lawrence looks like under those clothes then watch this movie. You'll get to see everything. I didn't mind watching it with the exception of the nudity. It made the movie unappealing.

This is a period piece from a book by Jason Matthews who writes spy novels. It must have 3 turncoats, 5 back-stabbings, 2 defections and 25 assassinations in just the opening credits alone. The story is about a girl, Dominika Egorova, who as the principal dancer for the Bolshoi has her leg broken by her lead (also boyfriend, soon to be ex) during a performance ruining her career. She has an uncle, Ivan Egorov, in the SRV who makes her into a “Red Sparrow”, an elite group of spies who gain their target’s trust through seduction (the Soviet Union actually did this). She’s pulled out in the middle of “training” to “spy” on an American agent who’s contact is a Russian mole, one they liked to be outed. She resents having to do this but she’s good at it and her uncle encourages her (against the concerns of the SRV administration who think he’s being nepotistic). The viewer is left to decide if she really is defecting or is playing defector to gain the target’s trust. I liked the beginning and the scenario setup. Jennifer Lawrence makes a credible dancer turned spy but by the tenth sellout, fifth turncoat and seventh assassination to conceal a conspiracy/scandal/whatever … it gets tiresome. This would be incredulous except I found out Jason Matthews used to work for the CIA. Also, why is it, to validate Dominica’s loyalty, the “good” Americans give her a polygraph while the “evil” Russians torture her? I think Jason sold out … to the mainstream publishers.

It's probably weird to say but I found this movie boring but interesting.

Not for children. Rape and torture scenes. Otherwise, a great performance by Lawrence, and a well crafted tale of intrigue.
