Every song, every work of art, has a story. In this case, this is the true story of the origin of a #1 hit inspirational song which leapt from the “Christian music” charts into those of several mainstream genres. The hand of God is seen guiding through it all, even in what seem to be irredeemable circumstances (and characters!). A great inspirational story of its own, though the acting was a little overdone in places. (For fans of non-pop music, the soundtrack is interesting: there’s that song of course, but all of the background cues seem to derive from its first three, by now iconic, notes.)

Inspirational. A movie that shows humans are fallible but can be positively changing with the help of the grace of Jesus.

Shallow and disappointing. But Dennis Quaid did a great acting job as the father and Michael Finley is a phenomenal singer. Much more powerful and musical than the actual singer Bart Millard that he portrayed in the film.

It sure wasn't what I expected. I love the song, the artist and was so anxious to see the movie. I wished that more of them would have played themselves, especially the artist himself. The guy that played him was pretty obnoxious.

No goosebumps like listening to Lennon's "Imagine" repeatedly for days and months and years. It is also difficult if not impossible for victims to forgive monstrous sinners/criminals especially those who claim to find God after slapped with a death sentence or came down with incurable diseases. Nonetheless, an excellent story though the song's cross over success is a bit overblown. For recent films with both great Christian music and/or faith are:
The Song (2014)
War Room (2015)
Priceless (2016)
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Miracles from Heaven (2016)
The Shack (2017) "Keep Your Eyes on Me" by McGraw and Hill
The Case for Christ (2017) DVD included 11 videos which are worth watching and listening.
