Excellent resource. This is written by someone who know his herbs. Gilbertie is a third generation plant grower in Connecticut. His grand-father, who came to America on a visit from Naples, Italy, at 17, in the late 1880s, fell in love with Compo Beach, Westport Connecticut. He immigrated in 1992, worked for a flower company until 1922, when he formed his own company: A. Gilbertie, Florist. Sal Gilbertie is the one who introduced herbs to the family enterprise, which has now more then 500 varieties. The man knows his stuff.

After this well told history of the Gilbertie company, the book offers a treaties of all important aspects to consider when growing herbs: life cycle, climate requirements, growth patterns and means of propagation. Gilbertie then takes you by the hand in building your first new garden.

This would already be a very valuable book. But Gilbertie goes on to offer close to 40 different plans for gardens. From your basic Culinary garden to the exotic, like the Tex-Mex or Taste of Asia Gardens;
From the food theme gardens (Bread, Breakfast, Fish and games Gardens), to one type of herb gardens (Allium, Basil, Thyme); From the functional (Medicinal, Dyer's, Pest repellent), to the whimsical (Pink & Red, Blue & Purple or Silver), Gilbertie has then all. One will definitely be to your taste.
