Book Corner: Librarian Shares Summer Favorites

Like a lot of people, I do more reading over the summer than I do during the rest of the year. Vacation time, longer days, and a respite from supervising my children’s homework in the evening allow for more time to curl up on the couch and read. At the beginning of summer, I have my “to be read” pile, and, at the end of summer, it’s fun to look back and see which ones I finished. As a Youth Ser... (more)

Grace and Fury has been written amazingly. At first I was a little unsure about the storyline but as it continued I began to get that into it, it was hard to put the book down.

One of the things I loved the most about how this novel was written were the chapters. How it went from Serina to Nomi. I for one absolutely enjoyed Serina’s side as you saw her life come tumbling down before her, to see her became such a strong character over time.

Nomi started off as the character I thought I would enjoy most but given her circumstances she turned into such a boring character with little of her bite left. In the end her character became soft.

I loved the way the novel ended so much changed, so much happened. .

Overall I thought this novel was great by the end of it once it all came together, it went surprisingly fast. Such an outstanding storyline. 4 stars

What a fantastic book! These two sisters live in a time when women have no rights. They can't learn to read and write and the superior and his sons take on Graces who are pretty much their sex slaves, but it is an honor to be a Grace. All her life, Serina has been groomed to be a Grace. Her sister Nomi is more rebellious and thinks it's wrong for women to have no rights. They go to the Palace and what happens, Nomi is selected to be a Grace instead and Serina is sent to an island of women who have been charged with a crime. It's pure danger for Serina who is soft and has never done hard work before. It's also dangerous for Nomi who doesn't know how to be a Grace, doesn't know who to trust and just wants her sister back.

I really enjoyed this book and did not want it to end. I can't wait for the next installment to find out what happens to Serina, Nomi and the other characters.

Beautiful, serene teenage Serina has it all planned out; she will be chosen as one of the Crown Prince's Graces (i.e., concubines/ornaments) and her fiery, clever sister Nomi will be her handmaiden. And it almost works out that way too. Except that the Crown Prince/Heir choses Nomi instead.

"Grace And Fury" is an thrilling, fast paced adventure tale for fans of "The Selection", "Red Queen" and "The Hunger Games" (and I mean that last part literally; if you don't fight to the death, then your whole crew starves). It ends on a cliffhanger and I'm sure many YA readers will be happy for the next installment.
