Winner: Best Orginal Song, "Shallow"
This is undeniably excellent movie. I was not expecting it to be as emotionally effective for me as it was for me, Lady Gaga gives a very good and likeable performance and Bradley Cooper deserves to win a Oscar for this film. There were times when I completely forgot I was even watching Bradley Cooper the actor, he looked different, he sounded different and felt different and Sam Elliot really surprise me, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him act the way he does in this film. This is a very romantic and ultimately very sad movie, the romance feels genuine and non forced mature and a sadness is earned the characters all seem deeply human, they have traits we liked them for and yet do things we wish they wouldn't for some odd reasons, it has a lot of comedians in it in serious roles there’s Andrew Dice Clay, Dave Chapelle, and Eddie Griffin shows up at one point. My only problem with the film is the fact that if you have seen the other version of The Star is Born, there’s not really all that much beyond the performances and music to really admire so much, but if you’ve never seen any of the previous The Star is Born films you’ll probably very much like this film a lot. But all of that say this movie is well made, powerfully effecting movie in its own right. 4/5 Stars. @moviefanatic of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
Fantastic film. Brilliant acting. The chemistry between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper is unmatched.
Only decent because of Lady Gaga. Bradley Cooper mumbled most of his lines.
After a long wait I was somewhat disappointed in this movie; I found it a bit flat.
An amazing job by Stefani
Reminds me of the movie "Forever My Girl" released earlier in 2018, although obviously much better than that. It has a nice set-up and first half, and it brought you viscerally into some of the moments throughout the movie as the relationship developed between Ally and Jack. I didn't feel as emotionally connected with the third act as I felt I should, and as other reviews have pointed out, perhaps it dragged on a bit too much to really feel that impact.
I believe this movie will stand as a classic on the subject of alcoholism. It covers all the bases and Rings true in every scene.
I came to this movie only having seen the video for the song Shallow, and only a basic notion of what it was about. I have to say I was not disappointed. Bradley Cooper's singing was quite good and I was equally impressed with Lady Gaga's acting. With music that was entirely original, except for one song, they gave a genuine and highly emotional performance. I strongly recommend this movie, even more so than Bohemian Rhapsody, which had the great advantage of an iconic soundtrack that had already been written decades earlier.
This movie was a very poor remake of previous versions, half way through I turned it off, not worth my time, not sure what all the hype was about.
Movie was a big disappointment especially after all the hype. This modernize version from the previous two just didn't do it for me. I give it 2 stars and that's ONLY because of Lady Gaga's phenomenal singing voice.
