A nice, clean movie with phenomenal special effects and a cool steampunk vibe. The plot was definitely similar to others, but it's really hard to find completely new ideas with as much cinematic history as we have. Still, in a time where every movie, even kid's movies, are riddled with perverse themes, graphic images, and foul language, Mortal Engines qualifies as extraordinary.

When they told me the premise, I was 100% on board. I mean, in a far away future there are humongous machines that carry the cities of the old world, robbing and pillaging around a dying wasteland? I had to see that!!
Unfortunately, the treatment of characters and story lines is the definition of corny... instead of spending so much money in special effects (which are top notch), why not spend a little in a script re-write?
It had so much potential, too bad it ended up like this.

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll kiss ten bucks goodbye. Well, maybe not the last part since you can check it out at the library. But for once the critics were right. This movie is just a rehash of Mad Max type flicks, lots of action and special effects in search of a comprehensible plot. There aren't any characters to really identify with and you've seen it all before, but it did have a good musical score.

The only interesting thing about this movie was making a game out of identifying the movie that each scene was stolen from.

A fun watch. Critics and video reviews smashed this movie, but I was totally into this and thought the C.G.I was just amazing. It's like Mad Max meets the Great Wall (the movie with Matt Damon). Don't think I'll re-watch though.

Could be a future sequel to Mad Max Fury Road, past the year 3118 (" 'Best before 2118'? ...It's over a thousand years old.") The two young leads, Hera Hilmar and Robert Sheehan, have great chemistry and a joy to watch. Exotic Jihae (singer/song-writer) gives a dramatic performance as the resistance leader. A good post-apocalyptic story with imaginative special effects and production sets.

Very enjoyable. Lots of machinery (made from scraps of our civilization) that is fun to watch. Probably a god family film, but not so young that grandparents wouldn't enjoy it.

Every good idea this movie had was taken from Star Wars.

I don’t understand why this movie got trashed by critics. Some of their reasoning was that it was too much like this with a little too much of that but I loved it. Great world building, gorgeous to look at, truly amazing CGI (I especially liked the scuttlebutt machine). It has a super hero named Anna Fang, a tough as nails but truly sweet as pie main character with a great name, Hester Shaw on a path of retribution being followed by a resurrected man she owes a favor to. And another thing I loved about it was the title Mortal engines. I think that works for corporeal engines as well.
I found it captivating.

.
Fairly standard heroic plot but with a unique world and background. I've not read the books so I can't comment as to its faithfulness but this movie was very creative.

Intro at the opening:

60 minutes is all it took for the Ancients to bring humanity to the brink of extinction. Those who survived mobilized their settlements to begin life anew
upon a poisoned Earth. In the hunt for food and fuel, the weak perished, and the strong grew ever more powerful. Until a new age arose, the Age of the Great Predator Cities of the West.

Now, she may look a little tatty around the edges, but she's a little ripper. So, who'll give me 12 quirkes? Eh? Oh, come on. Last chance to secure this genuine antique.
===
Trust me as you once did. I can save us both.
-Save us from what? The weapon's destroyed. The wall is still standing. You've failed.
Failed? You really don't know me, do you?
===
How can a society so advanced, so scientific, be so stupid?
-Well, no more stupid than people today. They just had far worse weapons
and far more sophisticated control systems.
