Classic movie that possesses lots of nostalgic Rankin and Bass charm. It does not entirely follow all of the details of the book, but recreates the core story faithfully. Highly recommended for those that like good story telling and tasteful animation.
A pretty faithful rendition of the animated classic. I'm not terribly fond of some of the artistic choices, or the total exclusion of a few characters and plotpoints (Beorn, the Arkenstone), but it works.
After reading the Hobbit and LOTR, I fell in love with the series. I grew up with this movie on VHS. Beautiful 70s drawings and songs. Excellent fun, perfect for kids :)
I know this is far from a perfect adaptation. The music is louder than the dialogue at really inconvenient moments, Bilbo's voice can occasionally sound like a moody fourteen year old brat, and the bizarre approach to Gollum is slightly unsettling. HOWEVER. This is one of the films of my childhood and it will forever hold a dear place in my heart.
Love this Movie. A chill and fun pace. Ritch animation and music with the beauty of 70's sound efects and theatrical voice work. The violence is creativly perposed and a lot of Tolkins mesages and concequences are intact even with a change in some story and details.
Vintage 70's. Good fun!
very good for younger groups. was ok but not enough action for my likeing!
I have this, good book and movie.
Cartoon movie of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic prequel to Lord of the Rings trilogy. Film has feel of late 1970's in which was produced.Might be more popular with kids than adults especially hardcore fans of Tolkien's works.
Okay for kids to watch.
Not scary. Too much music/singing for my liking but the kids seemed to like it.
