Can you fall in love like they do in the movies? It's Evie Summers's job to find out. Because if she can't convince her film agency's biggest client, Ezra Chester, to write the romantic-comedy screenplay he owes producers, her career will be over. The catch? He thinks rom-coms are unrealistic and he'll only put pen to paper if Evie shows him that it's possible to meet a man in real life the way it happens on the big screen. Cynical Evie might not believe in happily ever after, but she'll do what it takes to save the job that's been her lifeline . . . even if it means reenacting iconic rom-com scenes in public. Spilling orange juice on a cute stranger? No problem. Leaving her number in books all over London to see who calls? Done. With a little help from her well-meaning friends and Ben and Anette, the adorable father-daughter duo who keep witnessing her humiliations Evie is determined to prove she can meet a man the way Sally met Harry. But can a workaholic who's given up on love find a meet-cute of her very own?-- Publisher's description.

I started out liking the premise, but the labored wackiness led to a predictable ending

I don't know why I keep checking out these books that have the same theme; romantic comedy, etc. I was intrigued by the first "chapter" and then disappointed to find that it was merely the prologue. Once I got about halfway through the first chapter, I found that I wasn't interested. They should have stuck with the coffee shop.

The copy I have is missing 33 pages, right at the climax I might add. Boo

Loved it :)

This debut novel has a healthy dose of both heart and humor. Evie has been working her patootie off as an assistant hoping to make it as an agent. Her boss reveals that unless their Oscar-winning client comes up with a rom-com script soon the agency will not make it -- and there goes Evie's promotion. She makes a deal with the client which requires her to meet someone via a meet-cute and describe her experiences as inspiration for the script. As Evie manufactures meet-cute opportunities, she finds her love for writing returning. If you have a favorite rom-com, chances are Evie tries to recreate that iconic meet-cute moment. The results are often hilarious and even more often down right embarrassing, but Evie keeps plugging away. Her cheerleaders include her circle of friends from back home and a mysterious widower/daughter duo whom she connects with at her coffee shop/writing spot of choice. For much of the book I was torn on what my hopes were for the ending. Once the final scene is revealed, I realized how well the author had kept all her balls in the air. This book had me laughing at times and at others reaching for my tissues. Now I think I want to rewatch all my favorite rom-coms beginning with "Serendipity."
