Please don’t expect a story like Harry Potter. If you can manage to keep that in mind, this is a worthwhile read. Though the plot is often dark and deals with hard themes, ultimately (spoiler) the characters who care about truth, empathy and selflessness prevail. Children help confront lies and wicked people in power while helping to reset their community on a kinder and more harmonious trajectory.

An excellent tale that is as entertaining as it is quick to read. This modern day fairy tale is suitable for adults and children alike, and the hand drawn illustrations from various children adds to the quaintness of this cute story. Well worth the read.

Mrs. Rowling is a master storyteller. This is a simple and honest story, one she told her young girls as children, but the story is not dumbed down. It was such a pleasurable read and a delight to read her work again.

But even in this happy kingdom, a monster lurks. Legend tells of a fearsome creature living far to the north in the Marshlands... the Ickabog.
