This edition of "Watchmen" was okay, if you don't base the film off of the graphic novel, you'll be fine. It's dark, and quite frankly? Downright depressing at times, but when a film delves into the dark recesses of our society, it is not cotton candy and purple tights. The film opens with the brutal slaying of a guy chilling in his penthouse apartment, and is followed by Dylan's "Times a' Changin' " , and that should clue the veiwer into the fact that the story that is about to be told is not the typical fare we've seen on screen. The best super-hero films, successfully create a dark sense of urgency for mankinds survival. This film acheives that aspect, but the way to the climax is almost too complicated to follow, with almost too many storylines blurring the viewers perception of the film, but that is the point. If we knew eveything upfront, it wouldn't be much of a film. It is beautifully rendered, and stands out on that front. This is a film where the viewer has to pay attention or they will lose out on the glorious parts of the film. It is well acted, and developed. And I love the soundtrack. The problems that I see with the film are because I love the novel it was based on, so I won't drag those issues out in this review. It's a perfect movie to watch on a day or evening where one is holed up. It is long too, so get a snack and drink :)
