This short book seems to generate a lot of criticism - maybe even anger. A lot of readers think Penney's privileged life somehow makes her unworthy of consideration when her life-savings are stolen by Madoff and she is suddenly faced with starting over. Okay, so she stayed in her Manhattan apartment, and kept her maid.... But she worked hard to get there, and the theft of the life she had - while the SEC buffed its nails - is nonetheless a genuine shock. Penney discovers inner reserves and finds a way to move forward. That's the point of the book, not the address of the apartment she manages to cling to.
