The Concrete House

Building Solid, Safe, and Efficient With Insulating Concrete Forms
Oct 18, 2016ben_zen rated this title 0.5 out of 5 stars
After slogging through painfully-simple questions such as "So with ICFs they build the house out of concrete?" in the first chapter, through being told that for any serious questions, the reader should simply let the experts take care of it, I was left feeling entirely cheated out of details. A discussion of R-values, the degree to which a material resists the transfer of heat, turns into equivocation on the differences between types of insulation; meanwhile, there's no mention of approaches to reduce heating costs, and the author alternately says "it won't save you that much" and "it can halve your fuel bill!" This book feels more like an attempt at landing a sale, than explaining a construction method.
