If Changes were part of a TV series it would be the final episode in season 6. After listening to the CD version I came to the conclusion that it would have been better to have read more in the series before attempting Changes. The novel is action packed with twists and turns. Dresden is his usually self-effacing, wisecracking self and there is ample humour in the story’s telling. There is also considerable pathos. Bad guys do get their comeuppances but not without considerable cost. Changes is a great story that’s well told and it does stand alone if you haven’t read most of the series. However, given all the story elements that come together from previous novels it makes sense to go back to the earlier entries and get more background.
