The book is superficial at best, and at worst inconsistent, mixing rhapsodies over XHTML structure with code snippets demonstrating old, sloppy HTML. Readers will *not* learn how to write Web sites with this book. The examples are not learning exercises; they are mere eye candy, and that candy is the notorious chocolate covered razor blades described in urban Halloween legends. The authors demonstrate poisonous sites that use annoying animated buttons, snoop on visitors with cookies and block page content with pop-ups. All of the code is cut-and-paste without explanation. About half of the recommended links are obsolete, and many of the active links go to ugly click harvesters with suspicious links. "Dummies" computer books are usually pretty practical. This one fails to meet that standard.
