This book is part of a trilogy. I hadn't read the other two novels that preceded this one. Consequently, I was inundated with the names of many people and with many references to events in the small town that left me wondering if I should continue reading this book as I couldn't see a storyline happening until more than half-way through this novel. Finally, I got the names straight and, with the author's recapping of previous events, I saw the connections; then the story started to come into shape for me. I finally enjoyed the book. Perhaps this novel isn't a stand alone novel, as a reader lacking the background story feels a wash for a good part of the story. However, after reading this novel, I don't think I would want to spend the time reading the other 2 preceding ones in the Promise Falls series - a thin storyline that would be too drawn out for 3 novels.
