Rather slow-paced, so don't go into it looking for an action-packed, fast read. In fact, most of the plot hinges around Freya's scientific experiments, which should give you an idea of the pace of the book. I didn't mind it because the characters were strong and the political intrigue well done. The romance was predictable and while I had nothing against the hero, I didn't find it particularly interesting. I loved the friendship between the girls, though. The novel could have easily gone in the direction of mean girls and girl hate, but it didn't, and it was so lovely. Freya's development from an insecure, shy girl to a capable queen was equally well done. (And she risked her life for her cat, so that wins her all the points with me.) As long as you don't go into it expecting a fast, exciting read, you may get on well with Long May She Reign.
