During these Two Centuries Many of the important figures of American history including the Marquis De Lafayette, "LightHorse" Harry Lee, James Madison, James Monroe, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, and Warren Harding were visitors. Following the 1863 Battle of Chancellorsville, Ellwood became a Confederate Hospital and the Burial Site of the Arm of General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. The house was near the center of Union lines in the 1864 Battle of the Wilderness and is the only remaining structure that bore witness to that monumental struggle. This book tells the deeply human stories of the people who built, lived in, and, above all, loved this enduring and important place in the history of our country.
