The backstory is not necessary and should have been woven into the story line rater than laying out a disease progression in a political timeline. This is not a novella but instead a story outline used to generate some income for the author. De Niro is way too old for this sort of thing, Stratham and Owen good and well cast, script sort of clunky and unoriginal. The thing with the hammer with a tile face was dumb like the whole make it look like an accident-why?

The actual news coverage of the event is better than the movie. The hunt for the terrorists responsible is poorly done and disjointed-why did they waste the money on Daniel Craig and then give him nothing to do? Interesting look at how people will stick with the known even if it is unnecessary and even dangerous. Sort of like having to kick a child out of the comfort of home to go out in the big bad world. The plot line of two way communications with another species is excellent. The story goes astray when the author focuses on the usual bad guys in government and he gives them powers they simply don't have. Delta Force would never do what is depicted in the story as that is an illegal order and would not be followed. Submarine torpedoes are designed to shoot at ships not energy fields. The aliens can be given all sorts of powers and even violate Newtonian physics and expend unbelievable amounts of energy to transfer millions of tons of water when they would logically go out and get a bunch of Hydrogen the most common atom in the universe available everywhere. I really liked the Dolphins. The plot line of two way communications with another species is excellent. Very interesting story of a sort of love affair between AI and genetic creations. Only downer is a bit too much description of computer coding and too little believable science. A love story in a fight for survival.

Owen Wilson always seems lost, in this movie even more so. How anyone with any sort of talent would marry into that kind of family is even more unreal than the script. I guess I just didn't get it but I gave up midway.

China is a huge enigma-one of if not the oldest civilization on earth and they allowed themselves to become a mockery of a society led by a hugely corrupt government. Mao set the tone and this very sad society is the result. Amazed the Congress allowed this picture to be produced. All Americans should visit Big China once just to see the contrast between the past and the present. This is an old style Hollywood epic bolstered by a bit of fine work by Russell Crowe. The baddies in the mix are not done very well and the script gets off the rails toward the end but you gotta have that facedown in the arena. Excellent as always. The series is moving toward a conclusion of some sort. I would have liked much more information on the Lanky civilization. Very advanced industrially but seemingly retarded culturally and willing to sacrifice huge numbers of their "PEOPLE" for little advantage-not logical for an advanced species. And the reason we want a plain old AI-no emotions in the computer running things. And the reason we need a "brawn" is those opposable thumbs to fix the "thingies". Like the concept wouldn't want to fly on the ship.

Eisenhower said beware of the industrial/military complex-they are only interested in money and power and their enablers are politicians. Fighting over the Sahel is a logical absurdity, there is nothing there worth fighting over. Good plot and interesting-kept me up late finishing it-means it caught me. Better than the last but still not very good. Move on to a new character or add some life to this one, these books are becoming money factories for the author and are not meant to satisfy the reader.

Second in this series and very good. Sort of a lesson on war. How we used to do it, how we do it now and how we are going to do all rolled up into our two unusual heroes, a husband and wife team. I still don't hold much hope for the earthlings against a very large, mean and tough foe but fight on they will.Second in this series and very good. Sort of a lesson on war. I have read many of Burke's offerings and this is a very poor example of his writing. His flawed detective often has visions and is a recovering alcoholic but in this outing he is simply used as a pointer to get people killed as he blunders about. The ending makes no sense as some sort of divine act apparently intervenes to save his adopted daughter. Makes you wonder where the divine act was for all the other victims. Entire production seemed fake, none of the parents acted logically and typically Hollywood ignores reality. Most people are aware that in the case of a kidnapping the FBI will take the lead in the investigation-they are absent in this story.

A story that needs to be told but perhaps overdone on the psychological level. I didn't get the feeling that the author had the background to do this type of story, it is sort of you have to have experienced it to talk about PTSD that is as severe as described. This is a movie script not a novel. Convoluted plot was needlessly drug out to the rather inevitable ending. Two good characters completely wasted by the Hollywood style writing. New editor needed or new author.

Excellent as always, the stage is nicely set for the climax, so to speak. Bit more humor and some nice surprises in the plot. The ladies nice and not so nice are at the center of the fray and a rather bemused science geek wobbles along tying the story line together. Not sure that the human species deserves survival but so far haven't run into any alien sorts to hang our hat on so guess we go with what we got to work with, a very frail and fragile bunch facing up to a localized Big Bang. or Tiny Thud.Excellent as always, the stage is nicely set for the climax, so to speak. Needlessly worked at creating empathy for the ladies, they could stand on their own. Author departed from reality several times: The Germans kept rigorous track of travelers and no way they could travel about France on trains. The head of the British operations was not fluent in French and would have lasted a week and could never stand to be questioned by French or German authorities. Most educated English of this period spoke French and/or German. Small aircraft originating in France would last one flight and would point like an arrow to the departure point. Far from disappearing spies they caught the Germans loved to torture and then hang them and display them in public along with everyone who had assisted them, entire villages could be wiped out by one careless spy.Needlessly worked at creating empathy for the ladies, they could stand on their own.
